Title: Unspoken
Rating: PG
Prompt: Tangled

There was nothing left to say. They both had changed yet something always remained the same. They could still see the gratefulness in each others eyes, of being alive, of having another chance to meet again. Still, Jack felt as if he should break that silence. He wanted Chloe to know that he appreciated every single thing that she had ever done for him.

He almost whispered her name, but bit his lip, deciding to remain silent at the last moment. An uncharacteristic, indecisiveness played with his emotions and chipped away at his confidence. Jack watched Chloe as she tapped at the keys, her face calm but alive with determination to finish the task she was assigned.

“Do you have to stand there and stare at me? Don’t you have anything better to do?” Chloe asked abruptly.

Snapping out of his daze, Jack blinked and realized that she had stopped working and was staring back at him, a confused slightly angry expression still on her face. A half smile broke across Jack’s lips as he lowered his head, eyes focusing on the floor.

“Sorry… I’m just a little tired.” He answered. He started to make his retreat, taking a few steps towards the exit, but was interrupted by Chloe’s voice.

She apologized quickly, “Jack, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to sound so harsh. You really must be tired after today. You should go home and get some rest.”

There would never be a time to say just how he felt. It was written across his face every time he looked at her. An understanding beyond words would always be something that only they could share with each other.

“Yeah,” Jack said “Thanks, Chloe. I think I’ll do that.”
